OK, finally getting around to putting down my own feelings about the movie. I’ve read fandom wank on both sides (of the “how dare you criticize Joss” and of the “this was the worst movie ever” varieties, both equally silly), and it’s helped solidify my own opinions.
Just got back from the screening Serenity as part of The Alamo Drafthouse'sRolling Roadshow.
This second viewing was just as amazing as the first, but I have to say
that the location and the festivities really made this experience
First off, we drove out of Austin proper and "into the wilds" to a
ranch- a very special ranch as it houses the sets for the movie "The
Alamo." That's where we got to watch the movie! There were
snack boxes with bao and dumplings, beer, and an amazing theater under
the stars. Before the movie began, the PTB at the Drafthouse
introduced Jewel and Summer with the promise of a Q&A after the
movie. Then there was a hilarious Drafthouse produced video
lesson in cursing in Chinese.
I don't remember seeing this small bit in this community in the last couple of weeks, so if it's a repeat, please to forgive.
For those who have been lamenting the lack of the Firefly theme in Serenity, rejoice! At the very end of the closing credits there's an instrumental version. So stay all the way through and have a mini-feed of your fixation.
